Location:

Plenarsaal of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) Alfons-Goppel-Straße 11 80539 Munich

With the Munich AI Signature Lecture, BAIOSPHERE brings one of the most influential figures in computer science to Munich: Prof. Shafi Goldwasser, co-founder of modern cryptography and recipient of the ACM Turing Award 2012. Under the title “A Cryptographic Perspective on Machine Learning Trustworthiness Challenges,” she demonstrates how cryptographic methods can make machine learning more trustworthy – an outstanding evening for everyone interested in the future of trustworthy AI.

For decades, cryptography has ensured that digital platforms remain reliable even under the most unfavorable assumptions about attackers. Goldwasser transfers this approach to machine learning and shows how methods from cryptography and interactive proofs can secure trustworthiness across the entire ML pipeline. Her work has been recognized with two Gödel Prizes, and she is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society, conducting research at MIT, UC Berkeley, and the Weizmann Institute of Science.

The lecture can be experienced on October 20, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Plenary Hall of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich. The talk will be held in English and additionally broadcast via YouTube livestream, for which no registration is required. Questions regarding participation are answered by Annika Mader (events@baiosphere.org).
