Call for proposals: Emmy Noether Groups „Methods in Artificial Intelligence”

DFG call for proposals – early-career researchers (from the postdoc phase onwards) are invited to apply for the funding of an Emmy Noether Group, focusing on methods in AI. The program is part of DFG’s strategic initiative on Artificial Intelligence.

Proposals from all disciplines, dealing with AI methods, are welcome – including “the development or further advancement of AI methods, including theoretical foundations, analysis, and evaluation. In this context, the term AI methods is broadly understood and encompasses, but is not limited to, the following topics: machine learning, optimisation, logic and reasoning, algorithmics, data analytics and data mining, knowledge representation, knowledge-based systems, mathematical and formal foundations, statistical learning methods. The funding includes an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group leader position for 6 years, project-specific material and personnel resources, as well as investments required for the research project.

The program helps outstanding young researchers to sharpen their research profile and increase their international visibility. DFG aims at promoting international careers and particularly addresses female researchers.

There is a two-stage application process. The deadline for draft proposals (up to 5 pages, supported by an academic CV in the attachment) is 11 June 2025, with a registration deadline on 4 June 2025. The submission deadline for proposals is 17 December 2025, so the Committee will take its funding decisions by 26 March 2026.
