On 22 January 2026, BERD@NFDI and KODAQS, with support from AI-HUB@LMU, hosted the Data Quality Workshop: Unstructured Data and the Need for Quality Metrics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

Across invited talks and discussions, participants explored how to assess and improve the quality of unstructured data such as text, images, audio, and digital trace data, and why quality metrics matter for AI driven workflows and official statistics in business and economics. The program included contributions on smartphone sensing and behavioral data, survey methodology approaches to strengthen annotation and machine learning pipelines, and practical perspectives on dataset collection, documentation, fairness, and ethics.

The workshop also featured a poster session, including work from the KODAQS Academy Certificate Program cohort, and concluded with a panel on the opportunities and challenges of AI for unstructured data. AI-HUB@LMU Spokesperson Prof. Dr. Frauke Kreuter took part in opening remarks and the panel discussion, alongside other speakers from LMU and partner institutions.
