About us

Our goals

The Münchner Volkswirte Alumni-Club e.V. (VAC) unites alumni and supporters of the Faculty of Economics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München under the motto "Thinkers become leaders". The VAC promotes the dissemination of new economic ideas and supports science and research both ideally and financially.

The faculty is one of the leading in Germany and Europe and offers an excellent analytical education. Students acquire the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees here and are thus optimally prepared for working life. Through close contacts with industry and state institutions, the VAC puts the motto "thinkers become leaders" into practice and strengthens the link between university and the professional world.

Our board members

Dr. Reiner Krieglmeier (Chairman), Founder

My motivation is to give something back to the students and the Faculty of Economics from what I received over 30 years ago. During my studies and doctorate, I received valuable advice and support from many fellow students and lecturers. I therefore have very fond memories of my student days at the LMU in Munich.

Dr. Joseph Fesenmair (Deputy Chairman), Attorney at Law, Partner RAe Bird&Bird LLP

The renowned Faculty of Economics at LMU is exemplary in its training of young colleagues. As an alumnus who was lucky enough to be able to study there, being able to give something back, to make an - at least small - contribution to supporting future economists studying at this faculty and motivating them on their further path, to stay in contact with friends and like-minded people and to be part of a high-quality network was the motivation for me to be elected to the board.

Dr. Benedikt Haas (Treasurer), Managing Director, Head of Group Development & Transformation, Bayerische Landesbank

I have been a member of the VAC board for many years. I still feel very close to my old faculty, where I graduated in 1992 and obtained my doctorate in 1996. With my position on the board, I would like to make my contribution to networking between the faculty, alumni and business.

Dr. Annika Bergbauer, Managing Consultant, Q_PERIOR

I am involved in the VAC to expand the fantastic network of former economics students and to strengthen the added value of the association - especially for alumni and alumnae. I want to make economists visible to potential employers, especially in data sicence and coding. As tech economists in corporations, we contribute to market research with AB testing or classic business analysis.

Dipl.-Volksw. Christine Bergmann, editor, journalist, presenter in the Economy & Social Affairs editorial department, Bayerischer Rundfunk

I was and still am an enthusiastic economist. I am always fascinated by the subject and also by the variety of ways in which I can apply my knowledge in my career. Giving students access to this diversity, giving them ideas about what they can do, encouraging them and giving them the chance to expand their network (and mine too, I'm happy to admit) is what motivates me to work on the VAC Board.

Prof. Dr. Davide Cantoni, Chair of the Department of Economic History and Dean of the Faculty of Economics at LMU Munich

The VAC plays an important role for our faculty by maintaining the connection to our alumni and supporting students through practice-oriented offers and financial support. For almost 30 years, the close collaboration between the Faculty and the VAC has provided a unique opportunity for our students to benefit from the knowledge and experience of our alumni. As Dean, it is my declared aim to further strengthen this connection and to continue to help shape the VAC's offerings in such a way that they are optimally tailored to the needs of our faculty and our students.

Prof. Dr. Joachim Winter, Professor of Empirical Economic Research at the Faculty of Economics at LMU Munich

The VAC plays an important role in the life of the faculty. Supporting students through practical courses is of particular importance. As Dean of the Faculty, I am delighted to be able to contribute to the further development of the VAC's offerings.
