Learn more about the Center's vision, mission, values, and long-term goals for teaching, research, and community engagement.

Vision

Our vision is to unify knowledge from the geosciences and astrophysics to deeply understand planets within and beyond our Solar System, including identifying the geological principles and processes that may or may not be generalized to understand exoplanets.

Strategy

Our focus is to promote interdisciplinary research within the LMU across geosciences, planetary science and astrophysics. We aim to further the discipline of Geoastronomy and to establish Munich as one of its international hubs. We wish to pioneer the interdisciplinary training of the next generation of exoplanet scientists via our regular "Geoscience of Exoplanets" seminars. and a dedicated Master program specialization involving astrophysics and the geosciences.

Goals

  • Active organization & engagement in teaching, research and education in the field of Geoastronomy
  • Building interdisciplinary collaborations within LMU faculties and the scientific community within Munich
  • Capacity- and community- building
  • Dissemination and outreach of the Center’s work
  • Establish local and global partnerships

Values

To cultivate a culture of openness and scientific excellence, we are dedicated to fostering curiosity, mutual respect and inclusion. We believe that diversity - in perspectives, experiences, and identities - enriches not only our scientific research and teaching but also deepens our shared humanity. Through collegiality and expanding opportunities, we strive to empower our people to succeed and contribute their best work.
