Over the past decades, invisibility has become a catchword in cultural theory, most frequently employed to critique social and political marginalization. What is the role of literature for these discourses on invisibility? The workshop will explore how literary texts configure invisibility and how these figurations remain relevant in shaping today’s ideas of social, cultural, and epistemic in/visibility. The analysis of narratives, plays, and poems that prominently feature invisibility motifs will illuminate the significance of literature to the political distribution of social visibility in past and current societies.

Leitung: Dr. Gero Guttzeit (CAS Researcher in Residence/LMU)
