From the beginning of the sixteenth century, as part of the official Shi‘itization of Iranian institutions, translation projects of Shi‘i religious knowledge from Arabic to Persian were patronized by the court. In many cases, the circulation of these works linked Iran to other Shi‘i polities, particularly the Qutub Shahi Sultanate in Hyderabad.

Throughout this lecture, Alberto Tiburcio (LMU München) will provide an overview to some of these translation projects, bringing into question the extent to which we can speak of a coherent translation movement in itself. He will also explore the ways in which translation projects were related to works conceived originally in Persian themselves.

Diese Veranstaltung wird auf Englisch gehalten. Weitere Informationen zur Veranstaltungsreihe finden Sie auf der Website des Instituts.
