Developing Digital skills and tools for better inclusion of refugees and Immigrants (DigIT)

Project description

In recent years, access to higher education for refugees has been an important issue in Europe and represents an opportunity for universities to expand their services to all students, not just refugees.

Refugees can encounter many obstacles in accessing higher education. In particular, there is a clear need for teachers to develop the skills required to deal with a culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse student population. Based on current needs, the project focuses primarily on the comprehensive integration of refugees into digital offerings at universities by improving the digital skills and intercultural competencies of teachers.

The overall objectives of the project are to build readiness for digital education among adult refugees/migrants and to develop digital pedagogical skills among university teachers. The expected results during the project and after its completion are:

  • Preparation of a report analyzing best practices in digital learning for higher education teachers
  • Development of a learning toolkit for teacher training in higher education
  • Creation of a digital database and an online forum
  • Identification of general barriers that stand in the way of refugees/migrants' desire and motivation to pursue higher education
  • Providing a psychosocial perspective on the well-being of refugees and asylum seekers and on how to promote a focus on education
  • Identify language support needs and adapt the teaching process accordingly
  • Exchange of best practices and practical information on assistance options
  • Overview of the variety of study options for refugees/immigrants in various EU countries
