The Gene Center of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich invites applications for one research position within the European Innovation Training Network for Optimizing Adoptive T cell Therapy of Cancer – T-OP.

T-OP is a research network of 12 academic research groups, four industrial partners and one public authority in seven European countries. The joint goal is to train the next generation of scientists in the field of adoptive T cell therapy (ACT) of cancer. The research objective of T-OP is to optimize the use of cytokine support in ACT, as it is a key element of these products. T-OP brings together interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial teams spanning large and small-sized companies as well as experts in different aspects of cell therapy, immunology, protein engineering and bioinformatics. Tasks and responsibilities

The scientific project of one Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) (supervised by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Theurich and Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael von Bergwelt) is:

  • “Metabolic reprograming of adoptively transferred T cells by tumour-derived cytokine networks.”


  • Excellent scientist with a Master’s degree or equivalent in natural sciences or related disciplines (such as medicine or pharmacy); practical skills in modern laboratory work, preferentially combined with experience in animal experiments.
  • You must be within your first four years of research experience after completion of your Master’s degree or equivalent; you cannot hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment; you cannot have spent more than 12 months within the past 36 months in Germany (mobility rule); you must be proficient in the English language both written and spoken (proof required).


One position for cutting edge research projects and training with leading experts in the field of immunotherapy of cancer; employment contract for three years with the benefits of the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie program.

Also possible in a part-time capacity.
