The Faculty of Medicine of LMU Munich and the Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health – invite applications for a Full Professorship (W3) of Systems Biology and Technology Transfer combined with the lead of the Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health commencing as soon as possible.

The professorship covers the discipline in every aspect of research and academic teaching.

Focus of the professorship is the exploration of the systems biology of neurovascular, neurodegenerative, and neuroinflammatory diseases as well as the development of transformative technologies and regenerative therapies. Applicants are expected to have substantial accomplishments in research of disease mechanisms and the development of innovative technologies that pave the way to novel diagnostic and therapeutic, in particular, regenerative approaches. The professorship is affiliated to the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD), University Hospital of LMU Munich. At the same time the professorship will entail the lead of the Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health. The professorship does not comprise clinical duties.

Particular attention is given to researchers with a strong track record in basic research in the area of systems biology and disease-oriented research who further have an exceptional track record in technology development. Research programs covering the development of regenerative therapies and that bear upon clinical applications are of particular interest. Experience with industry/biotechnology as well as public-private-partnership are welcome. LMU and Helmholtz Zentrum München aim to strengthen their interdisciplinary research including through the excellence cluster Munich cluster for Systems Neurology (SyNergy).

LMU Munich and Helmholtz Zentrum München seek to appoint an exceptionally qualified personality. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career. Several years of experience heading a research team are expected.

The future holder of this position will be appointed to LMU Munich as a university professor (pay grade W3) under the terms of a private-law contract and will be granted leave of absence in order to be employed by the Helmholtz Zentrum München as the lead of the Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.
