The Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital of LMU Munich, invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) of AI-Supported Therapeutic Decision-Making (Chair) commencing as soon as possible.

The professorship will pursue interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to the interplay of artificial intelligence (AI) and clinical medicine. Methods based on data and supported by AI to determine personalized treatment path will constitute the focus of research. The professorship will develop the necessary methodology and will build data repositories in collaboration with clinical counterparts. Methods will be developed for the effective integration of these approaches into clinical routine and for their outcome-based assessment. The professorship will also contribute to and evolve teaching in medical and interdisciplinary courses of studies. The focus here is the competent and responsible use and development of AI-supported decisionmaking by physicists.

Focus areas are in particular:

  • Explainable and auditable AI
  • Validation of complex systems including AI components
  • Multi-criteria decision-making and value-based recommendations
  • Hybrid architectures of expert systems and machine learning
  • Interfaces between patients, physicians, and AI
  • Visual dashboards and clinical support systems
  • Integration of heterogenous knowledge sources into clinical decision-making including diagnostic support by AI
  • Patient-centric technology assessment

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program. A medical board certification would be welcome, but is not a requirement.
