Our lab is specialized in the development, characterization and implementation of genetically tailored pigs as models for human diseases (metabolic diseases, rare monogenic diseases) and as donors of cells, tissues and organs for xenotransplantation. We are based at the Gene Center Munich and have additionally established the Center for Innovative Medical Models (CiMM) as a unique infrastructure for large animal research. Within the recently funded SNF Sinergia project “Xeno2Cure - advanced engineering and testing of organ donor pigs” we offer a Postdoc position for the development and analysis of genetically multi-modified donor pigs for cardiac xenotransplantation. The duration of the project is 48 months. The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art techniques of genome editing, screening for off-target effects, and functional analysis of the introduced modifications on the cellular and organismic level.

Requirements

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who share our dedication to science and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research with an excellent PhD in biomedicine, human biology, biology, biochemistry, or similar. You are expected to be able to develop and perform experiments independently, and work well in a team. Excellent communication skills and a solid background in genome editing and other molecular and cellular biology techniques are required.

Our lab is located in the Gene Center Munich with access to excellent instrumentation and facilities in-house and on campus. CiMM is located near Oberschleißheim, close to the new Campus of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Downtown Munich can be reached by public transport within 20 minutes, the German Alps in just over 1 hour.
