The chair for Statistics and Data Science in Social Sciences and the Humanities (SoDa) at the Institute for Statistics is recruiting one Student Assistant to support research in the „Transatlantic Privacy Perceptions“ project (TAPP). This international project surveys influential voices and experts in privacy about their attitudes, expectations, and concerns around current and future topics in digital and data privacy across time, countries, and sectors through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.

Tasks and responsibilities

The student assistant will mainly be supporting the qualitative research aspects of the project in Europe, and will get to be involved in the research process from start to finish:

  • Coordinating qualitative online interviews with privacy stakeholders in Europe (getting contact details, outreach, communication, scheduling)
  • Assisting in conducting the interviews (in German and English)
  • Transcribing the interviews
  • Assisting in coding the interviews
  • Researching relevant privacy literature (academic, legal, media)
  • Completing administrative and documentation tasks.


Basic knowledge of how to conduct a qualitative interview study (e.g. as part of your university studies):

  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Professional fluency in German, very good command of English
  • Reliability and ability to work independently


  • Experience in conducting, transcribing (e.g. f4), and/or coding (e.g. MAXQDA) qualitative interviews
  • Interest in mixed-methods and/or privacy research.

This is a part-time job
