Opening hours / Beginning:

15 September 2021

The Center for Advanced Studies at LMU provides a forum for scientific exchange and discussion that bridges the divide between the established disciplines. Its activities are designed to promote all forms of collaborative research and to stimulate interdisciplinary communication within the University. In addition, it facilitates the integration of visiting scholars and scientists into the academic life of the University.

China is a global force whose impact on the world takes countless forms: labor export, resource extraction, but also scientific cooperation and environmental governance. This “globality” requires a thorough rethinking of the China Studies field, and China scholars will have to push aside the field’s methodological nationalism. This workshop concentrates on three particular aspects of Global China: environments, epistemologies, and ethics. Environment refers not only to the planetary environmental impact of Chinese development and policies, but also to the ways in which China’s rise might be reshaping the discourse surrounding nature, human-environment relations, and ecologies. In this sense, environmental issues are as much epistemological and ethical, as they are a matter of global governance.

A Workshop led by Alessandro Rippa, Ph.D. (CAS Young Center/LMU).

The event will be conducted in English. For further information, see the CAS website.
