Statement from Prof. Dr. Francesca Biagini, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity
The dramatic development and spread of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has forced the global community to face unprecedented challenges. The implications are often existential, with many of us facing serious consequences in the planning of both life and career matters. On the whole, the impact of this crisis entails making incisive changes to our everyday lives.
At this challenging time, I firstly wish to express my deepest sympathy to those directly affected by the disease and their families.
Secondly, I wish to emphasize LMU’s commitment to our international partners. We will endeavor to do everything in our power to sustain and — in light of this crisis — intensify our collaborations across all areas. To this end, we are not only just trying to find pragmatic solutions as quickly as possible to the immediate issues concerning international exchange and cooperation but we are also seeking new, more sustainable approaches to internationalization.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our international partners for the solidarity that we have shown each other. We are a cosmopolitan and forward-looking university which welcomes international students, graduates and researchers. While closed borders and international travel restrictions currently prevent us from physically extending the hand of welcome, we can express it virtually. And we continue to do just that.
With very best wishes
Francesca Biagini, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity
