On 17 November 2026, Prof. Dr. Liliana Gómez will give a lecture as part of the lecture series “Philology and Sustainability.”

The lecture discusses the pharmakon as a conceptual figure and explores the transcultural history of stimulants between Europe and the Americas, which is increasingly being addressed in the arts, from the perspective of human–plant entanglements between modern knowledge production and Amerindian knowledge practices. In doing so, the lecture examines how contemporary Latin American art, through its poetic practices and ecological thinking, explores the potential for healing and imagines forms of interspecies communitas.
