Our Seminar Program

Change content

  • The Center for Leadership and People Management offers a scientifically grounded seminar program tailored to the needs of LMU's academic staff.
  • Each semester, as part of our regular seminar program, we organize around 40 seminars for LMU’s academic staff around the topics of leadership, teamwork, and communication.
  • For each target group, the program is structured into basic and advanced seminars

Our program is equally aimed at:

  • Professors
  • Private lecturers
  • Habilitands
  • Postdocs
  • Doctoral students

  • In our basic seminars, we provide an overview of topics related to leadership and collaboration. We recommend attending a basic seminar first before participating in other seminars.

  • Our advanced seminars focus on three key areas: self competence, leading, and teaching skills.
    • Our self competence seminars cover topics such as time and stress management, creativity, positive psychology and mediation for conflict resolution.
    • Seminars on leadership skills focus on the role of academics as (future) leaders and convey skills on, for example, employee, team, chair and organizational leadership with a focus on increasing excellence.
    • The third subject area, teaching skills, was introduced to further professionalize leadership skills in dealing with students. This content is an extension of PROFiL, LMU's teaching qualification program.

Certificate "Leadership in Science"/Certificate of Advanced Training

Change content

With the “leadership in science” certificate, we offer LMU's scientists who have already completed their doctorates (professors, private lecturers, habilitation candidates, and postdocs) the opportunity to document their continuing education activities with a comprehensive, uniform, and meaningful certificate. The certificate is intended to serve as proof of interdisciplinary skills in job applications and appointment processes.

The structure of the certificate

  • The certificate consists of basic-competences and three in-depth competencies (self-, leading-, and teaching). We therefore recommend attending one of our basic seminars at the beginning.
  • The seminars in the area of self-competence are designed to promote your individual excellence. The focus is on consciously examining your own working style and dealing with your strengths and weaknesses. In addition, you will receive concrete guidance and suggestions, for example in the areas of time management, creativity, or work-life balance.
  • You will acquire leading-competence by attending our seminars, where the focus is on your role as a (future) leader. Here, you will find offerings on leadership or teamwork and learn how to demand and promote excellent performance from others.
  • One seminar on teaching-competence focuses on your role as a teacher. Our seminar covers both methodological and didactic topics as well as suggestions for dealing professionally with students.

Applying for the certificate

Once you have attended all the seminars required, please download the application form (PDF, 143 KB), fill it out, and send it together with copies of the certificates of attendance for the courses you have taken to: peoplemanagement@psy.lmu.de

After reviewing the documents, the certificate will be sent to you by email and/or to your LMU-postal address, as requested.

LMU's doctoral candidates have the opportunity to receive a certificate of advanced training for all seminars they have attended. Unlike the certificate for researchers with a doctorate, there are no additional requirements for this. The certificate is issued on the basis of the seminars already completed.
