Egypt has one of the oldest and most enduring written cultures in human history! The ancient Egyptians were extremely creative in their use of text. The image of ancient Egyptian scribes as mere copyists of rigid ‘sacred texts’ is inaccurate. Rather, the findings demonstrate a conscious flexibility. ‘Through deliberate variations, the scholars demonstrated their own expertise and sometimes created new myths,’ says Professor Martin A. Stadler.
