The Gender Certificate allows students to demonstrate that they have acquired essential skills in gender and diversity management. The certificate in “Gender and Diversity Competence in Teaching and Research” attests to the ability of researchers to address gender and diversity-related issues in the context of academic teaching.

Requirements for obtaining the certificate

  • Successful completion of at least four of the gender and diversity seminars organized on behalf of the Women's Representative (see the respective course descriptions)
  • Write a Critical Essay on issues related to gender and diversity competence, ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 characters (excluding spaces), and submit it to the Women's Represenatit via email (frauenbeauftragte@lmu.de) as a .doc file. It is important that the essay demonstrate linguistic, formal, and methodological rigor. Receipt of the certificate is contingent upon acceptance of the critical essay.

The certificate attests to the following competencies:

The courses help participants understand why our increasingly heterogeneous society requires us to act in a diversity-competent manner (to want).

The courses provide basic knowledge about the social construction of gender stereotypes and foster a deeper understanding of the communication and behavioral processes that help break down prejudices (to know).

Through practical exercises, participants learn methods that are useful for integrating heterogeneous groups. In addition, they are equipped to critically analyze and evaluate different approaches to addressing structural barriers in diversity and to develop new ideas within existing structures (to be capable).

Certificate in "Gender and Diversity Competence in Teaching and Research" for Researchers

Since the 2014–2015 winter semester, it has been possible to earn the certificate in "Gender and Diversity Competence in Teaching and Research" through the Office of the Women's Affairs Officer.

This certificate attests that the holder has acquired fundamental pedagogical and practical skills in dealing with gender and diversity-related issues.

Requirements for obtaining the certificate:

Fee

We charge a processing fee of €30 for issuing certificates to students from other Bavarian universities or to LMU adjunct faculty members.
