Mental health, conflicts and crises

While working on a dissertation, you may encounter minor or major uncertainties, problems, conflicts, or crises. In these situations, doctoral researchers can access a range of counseling services.

Mental Health

At our events, you can develop various skills that will help you effectively manage the day-to-day challenges of your doctoral studies.
We support you in strengthening your mental health, managing stress, and creating a balanced daily work routine. Through various formats, we create space to develop strategies for resilience, motivation, and self-care, and to exchange experiences with other doctoral students.
If you find yourself in a conflictual or stressful situation, we are here to support you in a personal and confidential conversation to reflect on the current situation and possible next steps. The counselors at the GraduateCenterLMU are trained in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and can provide you with initial guidance. You can find more information on our Consultation page.

Faculties and Ombudspersons

For questions and problems related to your doctoral project, your advisor or the relevant examination office/dean’s office may be the first point of contact, depending on the issue.
Many doctoral programs also have their own ombudspersons who provide advisory and mediating support in the event of conflicts.
The principles of good scientific practice (GWP) in effect at LMU form the basis for responsible scientific work. They are laid out in the Regulations for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice and serve to protect integrity, transparency, and quality in research. If you have questions about these regulations or suspect scientific misconduct, you can contact the Officer for Self-Regulation in Science.

The rules of good scientific practice applicable at LMU Munich can be found in the LMU Munich Regulations for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice. The contact person is the Officer for Self-Regulation in Science.
