GSN Honorary Doctorate for Prof. Matteo Carandini, awarded on June 12, 2026

The third and most recent honorary Ph.D. title at the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences (GSN-LMU) was conferred to Prof. Matteo Carandini on June 12, 2026, for "his groundbreaking models and outstanding experimental findings regarding fundamental principles of neuronal processing in sensory areas of the neocortex" as well as for "his contributions to the development of new electrophysiological methods and to the promotion of international research collaborations".

After a Laudatio by LMU Vicepresident and GSN Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Benedikt Grothe, the certificate was handed over during the 2026 Munich Brain Day meeting, organized by several institutions part of the Munich Center for Neurosciences (MCN-LMU).

In his keynote lecture titled The Odds of a Decision, Matteo Carandini offered the audience in the large lecture hall of the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence a captivating insight into the work carried out in his laboratory Cortexlab at the UCL Faculty of Brain Sciences.
