The GSN application site is open yearly from December 1st through February 15th.

No. On the online application form, you should indicate which program or programs you are applying for. In order for your application to be considered for all selected programs, please make sure you discuss each chosen program in your letter of motivation (check the exact format here (PDF, 91 KB)) as part of the online application.

The interviewers suggest the most fitting program and the final decision is made by the admissions committee, however you can mention your program preference during the interviews.

We cannot review documents at the request of potential students under any circumstances prior to application. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure the completeness and accuracy of your documents based on the GSN application requirements.

The GSN will only review applications submitted to the GSN application site between December 1st and February 15th. Applications through external platforms such as Uni-Assist.de or similar are not possible. Review the online application steps and instructions.

These specific tests are not required. However, an excellent command of spoken and written English is mandatory and will be tested during the interviews.

You may apply to our programs if you will complete the final semester of your degree program before our programs begin on October 1st.

Make sure you have indicated the correct email address. Referees are notified only the moment you submit your application. Please inform your recommender in advance that a request will be automatically sent soon and ask referees to also look in their spam folders if they do not receive the email as expected. Should your recommender however not receive the request after your application submission, please contact us at gsn.admissions@bio.lmu.de

Students invited to attend the GSN Interview Phase will be notified by mid-April. Communication of decisions about refusal or acceptance to the GSN program: by the end of May.

Second-time applications will only be considered if significant progress can be demonstrated.

Principally, the Ph.D. students in GSN-LMU are financially supported by their supervisors in their working group. This may be via a stipend from different foundations or via employment. The type of funding may vary and is only up to the supervisor to decide. The GSN awards stipends, in exceptional cases only, for fast-track students, neurophilosophy research, or special cross-discipline projects. See our funding information for more details.
