Clinical Case Discussion (CCD)

Learn medicine through real cases. Train your clinical thinking. Improve your problem-solving skills. Connect with fellow students and physicians.

The Clinical Case Discussion (CCD) is a peer-taught program at the LMU, supported by MeCuM-International and experienced clinicians. Every two weeks, motivated students from all clinical semesters come together to discuss selected real-life cases from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) – entirely in English.

What is CCD?

  • Interactive case discussions in small groups (~15 people)
  • American case format: structured, problem-based learning
  • Moderated by students, guided by clinicians for real-world insights
  • Focus on clinical reasoning and decision-making
  • International preparation: sharpen your skills for electives abroad

Each session includes:

  • A moderator who guides the discussion step by step
  • A presenter who selects and prepares the case
  • A clinician who shares real-world expertise and feedback

Why join CCD?

  • Practice applying medical knowledge in a safe, interactive setting
  • Prepare for clinical electives and international exchanges
  • Improve your English skills for medical discussions
  • Learn directly from clinicians and peers
  • Meet new people across semesters and specialties

And of course – we make sure it’s fun, relaxed, and motivating!

Join the team

CCD was founded by LMU students who wanted to bring real clinical reasoning practice into medical education. Today, an active team of moderators, presenters, and clinicians keeps the sessions running smoothly.
