Welcome!
This information page provides a brief overview of our research project on "Emotion-Focused Therapy for Binge-Eating Disorder" and is intended for individuals interested in participating in the study.
You can find information on the scientific and theoretical background and project funding on our overview page.
About Us and the purposes of the study
Our team consists of researchers in the Department of Psychology at the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich).
As part of the project, we are also collaborating with colleagues from the Eating Behavior Lab at Paris Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS), as well as with licensed psychological psychotherapists (i.e.: clinical psychologists) who hold Level B or Level C certification in emotion-focused therapy (EFT).
Dr. Julia Reichenberger (University of Salzburg and LMU) is responsible for the project globally, and Heidrun Mutter (LMU Munich) is serving as the study coordinator.
As part of our study, we aim to determine whether emotion-focused therapy can be helpful for individuals with recurrent binge eating episodes, particularly with regard to the frequency of these episodes, as well as their psychological well-being and other emotional aspects.
Participation in the study includes an active phase lasting approximately three months (screening, diagnostic assessments 1 & 2, and the study phase) followed by a passive phase until diagnostic assessment 3.
The benefits for you consist either of fully funded participation in emotion focused therapy without having to report it to your health insurance provider (intervention group) or paid participation in the smartphone survey with feedback on your individual progress at the end of the study, as well as assistance in finding therapy if needed, or fully funded 10-hour EFT short-term therapy (waitlist/ control group).
Assignment is random and, for scientific and methodological reasons, cannot be influenced by the study team.
