The LMU-SU Research Cooperation Program was established in 2025 to promote and support research collaboration between LMU Munich and Stellenbosch University (SU).
The LMU-SU partnership is open to all disciplines and supports joint research and partnership development projects, workshops, conferences, as well as mobility opportunities for early-career researchers and professors.
The call for applications for the 2026 funding period is open now.
Funding is available for applications that combine the financing options listed below into one cooperation project:
One application may involve costs of up to EUR 25,000 per annum.
Please note that with the recent start of the partnership, commitments for 2025 can only be guaranteed for the funding period starting 1 July 2025 and ending 31 December 2025.
Detailed information on funding amounts, criteria, and required documents can be found in the document "LMU-SU Call for Applications 2026" (PDF, 209 KB).
Applications must be prepared and signed jointly by partners at LMU and SU. PIs on both sides must hold a doctorate and be employed at the university on a fixed-hours basis at the time of application.
The links differ only in the type of registration required – they lead to the same application form. Only one joint application per project is required.
To promote networking across projects, LMU’s International Office will host a series of events in Munich from 8–12 June 2026. If your project application for 2026 includes mobility to Munich, we encourage you to plan the stay during that week.
