LMU-Todai Cooperation in the Sciences

The strategic partnership between LMU and the University of Tokyo (Todai) supports innovative research across disciplines and fosters cooperation in the sciences at both universities.

LMU and the University of Tokyo (Todai) have had a cooperation agreement since 1997. Since 2007, this partnership has been further developed within the Excellence Initiative as the Cooperation in the Sciences Program.

Call for Applications for 2026

The call for applications for the 2026 funding period is open from 1 September 2025 to 7 November 2025.

The LMU-Todai Cooperation in the Sciences Program provides funding for:

  • Research-related mobility for early-career researchers (doctoral candidates and postdocs)
  • Workshops, conferences
  • Seed funding for joint projects
  • Visiting professorships at LMU for Todai professors

Applications of this funding are only open to the LMU members. The required documents must be submitted via the online portal: LMU application portal - strategic partnerships.
