LMU Sustainability Fund

LMU is committed to solving complex future challenges in the areas of people, society, culture, environment, and technology. Sustainability is therefore a central component of LMU’s strategy. The Sustainability Fund supports projects that promote interdisciplinary research, innovative teaching, sustainable transfer, and effective infrastructure.

Projects that convincingly address ecological, economic, and social sustainability will be funded. Students are encouraged to participate. Become a part of our sustainable future.

All faculties of LMU, central institutions, and the Medical faculty of the LMU University Hospital are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted by 30 September 2025.

The funds can be used flexibly within the funding period from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027.

Please note: According to the application guidelines (PDF, 337 KB), your proposal must be submitted by the dean of your faculty or the head of your central institution. Please get in touch with them.

Our funding lines

Funding for interdisciplinary research projects that address various aspects of sustainability and contribute to overcoming sustainability challenges.

Funding amount: up to € 50,000

Funding is available for interdisciplinary projects in undergraduate and graduate teaching that integrate sustainability content (into the curriculum) and contribute to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), especially in degree programs where this content is currently underrepresented.

Funding amount: up to € 50,000

Funding for transfer formats and projects in cooperation with an external partner to address different aspects of sustainability and contribute to tackling sustainability challenges.

Funding amount: up to € 25,000

Funding for infrastructure projects that contribute to sustainability. This may include grants for complementary or additional measures as part of a planned or ongoing infrastructure project.
