Deutschlandticket from May 1st: Transitional arrangements in the summer semester 2023

7 Mar 2023

Until 30 April 2023, LMU students can switch from their Semester Ticket to the Deutschlandticket (Germany Ticket).

The Deutschlandticket (Germany Ticket), which allows all passengers to use local and regional transport throughout Germany for 49 euros a month, will be available from 1 May 2023. In collaboration with the Munich Student Union’s Upper Bavarian chapter, the Committee for Mobility has liaised with Munich public transport utility MVV to find a solution that now makes it easy for all students to switch from their Semester Ticket to the Germany Ticket.

The solution envisages a transitional period from 1 to 30 April 2023. During this period, the student pass validated for the summer semester 2023 will be accepted as a valid ticket in the entire MVV local transport network. Starting on 1 May, students can then switch to a Germany Ticket subscription, which can be canceled on a monthly basis. For details of the Germany Ticket, please visite the MVG website.

Students who have already purchased the IsarCard Semester for the summer semester 2023 can return this ticket up to and including 30 April 2023. For more information, please read this publication by the Munich Student Union.

Starting in the winter semester 2023/24, the Free State of Bavaria also plans to introduce a 29-euro ticket for students and apprentices. This will be done by adding an additional 20-euro subsidy to the Germany Ticket, leaving only 29 euros to pay for the same services.

The AK Mobility has also created a FAQ collection on its website that contains answers to frequently asked questions. If you have further questions, please contact the Committee for Mobility by sending an e-mail to info@semesterticket-muenchen.de.
