In the QS World University Rankings 2023, LMU has moved up five places year on year to 59th place. It remains one of only three German universities to make it into the 100 best universities in the world. This year’s ranking list is topped by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge and Stanford University.

Ranking methodology

The QS World University Rankings include around 1,400 universities from around the world, comparing them on the basis of criteria such as academic reputation, the number of research citations, the ratio of lecturers to students, the proportion of international students and lecturers, and assessments by employers.
