In this latest edition, LMU retains its previous position in the global listing, and occupies the 32nd slot. Among its European peers, LMU takes 8th place – and in continental Europe, it is rated second to the ETH Zürich.

This year’s THE ranking includes more than 1600 institutions in 99 countries around the world, and British and North American universities lead the field.

The THE World University Rankings are primarily based on assessments of the quality of research and teaching programs, as well as citation records. But the listing takes a total of 13 indicators into consideration.

Since 2015, the citation records used in the THE Rankings have been compiled in cooperation with Elsevier (Scopus).

The listing for 2022 is led by the University of Oxford, the California Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
