Duties of the official data protection officer at LMU Munich
The official data protection officer at LMU Munich is responsible for all university institutions, in particular the central university administration, central institutions, faculties, and other decentralized institutions. He performs the tasks specified in Art. 39 (1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). His responsibilities extend in particular to:
- Informing and University Executive Board and employees who process data regarding their obligations under the GDPR and other data protection regulations of the European Union and national law
- Monitoring compliance with data protection regulations, e.g., GDPR, BayDSG
- Providing advice in connection with data protection impact assessments and monitoring their implementation in accordance with Art. 35 GDPR
- Cooperating with the supervisory authority, the Bavarian State Commissioner for Data Protection, in particular as a point of contact for questions relating to data processing.
The official data protection officer is not subject to instructions in the performance of his duties.
Data protection officer at LMU Hospital (KUM)
As a public institution, LMU Hospital (KUM) is a legal entity in its own right and legally independent of LMU Munich. KUM is responsible for the processing of personal data falling within its competence, in particular in clinical and medical matters. KUM has its own data protection officer. Inquiries within KUM's area of competence and responsibility must be addressed exclusively and directly to KUM. LMU will not forward such inquiries.
