To celebrate diversity at LMU, we take the Student Day as an opportunity. Advice and contact points inside and outside LMU, inspiring people in the Living Library and a talk on mental toughness, all contribute to this special day for our students.
Under the motto "Together@LMU," the Diversity Initiative 2023 aims to highlight the diversity of its student body while raising awareness of the importance of inclusion, belonging, and togeherness. A variety of events and activities are planned for 20 June 2023 to encourage dialogue between students from different backgrounds and cultures.
The counseling and contact points inside and outside LMU will present their numerous support services and students will receive valuable tips on the topic of mental strength and togetherness. Let's get together!

The Anti-Klassismus-Referat of the Student Council at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München represents the interests of all students who are or will be economically and culturally located in society and as a result experience discrimination and oppression (Kemper/Weinbach 2009: 13). In the university context, this refers to those persons who are affected by unequal participation opportunities and participation resources along the lines of their class position and origin: Workers and workers' children, the working poor, students with Hartz IV experience and others.
ArbeiterKind.de is an initiative in the German-speaking countries that aims to increase the proportion of non-academic children at universities and to support them on their way to successfully completing their studies. Arbeitkind informs pupils about the possibility of studying and accompanies students on their way from entering university to successfully completing their studies.

The Queer-Referat of the Student Council of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich sees itself as a representation of interests of all people who locate themselves outside a cis/heteronormative conceptual framework. The department represents the interests of queer students in university policy contexts, educates about gender and sexual diversity, carries out anti-discrimination work, offers advice and organises events.
Objectives
Through various initiatives, the Queer-Referat aims, among other things, to help LMU Munich present itself as an open, accepting, and respectful institution that has a place for all students, regardless of their gender or sexual-romantic identity. In this way, the Queer-Referat contributes to ensuring that all students feel completely comfortable at LMU Munich from the very beginning.
In order to enable inclusion and participation in everyday student life the Office for Disability Services offers a comprehensive range of counselling and support services for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
Support offer
This includes, for example, equipping students with impairment-specific aids such as hearing systems, laptops and visually impaired software, as well as sharing the use of the rest and service room in the stressful everyday university life. We also offer new students guided tours of the campus and support them in manoeuvring through the university buildings without barriers.
Counselling service
Students can obtain information and advice on the topics of study selection and admission, study organisation such as leave of absence and extension of study time, challenges in everyday study and compensation for disadvantages.
Peer groups
An exchange also takes place within so-called peer groups, in which students with similar impairments can support each other.

The counseling center informs and advises you on all questions regarding the compatibility of studies and family. This can be basic information about studying with a child, but also individual problems of study orientation, semester planning or questions about exam organization. If necessary, the counseling center also contacts the departmental study counseling or the examination office.
The University Women's Officer is the point of contact for matters of equality in studies, science, research and teaching at LMU. In accordance with the BayHIG, the women's representatives ensure that disadvantages for female academics and students are avoided and support the universities in implementing equality.

In our Living Library you don't borrow books, but life stories of people you might otherwise never meet.
A Living Library is an event where people with very different life stories and backgrounds act like books in a library. The "readers" can choose a "book" and have a conversation with the person to hear more about their experiences and gain a deeper understanding of their perspective.
The length of the talk depends on the availability of the "book" and the demand of the "readers". As a rule, however, a talk lasts about 15-20 minutes. During the event, you have the flexibility to come to the Living Library information desk and choose the most exciting stories.

How can top performance be strengthened through togetherness? What are the advantages of heterogeneous teams and how can different backgrounds and perspectives be used to achieve top performance? Markus Hörwick is a former spokesperson for FC Bayern Munich and now works as a consultant. As part of the Student Day "Together@LMU", he will talk with Vice President Prof. Dr. Francesca Biagini about how peak performance is made possible in the community and how this relates to communication, humanity and empathy.
After the talk, participants will have the opportunity to ask Christoph Herr questions.

Markus Hörwick worked for more than 33 years as head of media and communications at FC Bayern Munich, and in 2013 he was voted "PR Professional of the Year. Today, Markus Hörwick is an independent media expert, media manager and consultant for media and public relations. He gives lectures and workshops.
Top athletes are winners. They are celebrated as heroes in the media and by fans. But of course athletes are only human. With challenges and new tasks our mental strenght can grow, but we can also become ill if the pressure is too high - or at least it can prevent us from using our full potentials. For a long time, mental illnesses in competitive sports were only noticed on the sidelines. However, the topic has become increasingly important and sports psychologists and coaches are hired to support professional atheletes.
Christoph Herr works as a sports psychology expert. As the person responsible for the DFB Academy of Sports Psychology, he supports the U-21 women's national soccer team in developing their mental strength. In this event, Vice President Prof. Dr. Francesca Biagini will join Christoph Herr to talk about how to deal with performance pressure and stress in everyday life, what our environment positively contributes to it and what role togetherness plays. He will also talk about effective strategies to promote one's own mental health.

Christoph Herr is a sports psychology expert and freelance coach. He has been working with competitive athletes (U21 Women's soccer team) and private individuals throughout Germany since 2014. His passion for sport and the challenges it poses, especially in the mental area, led him to support other people in the long term.
