53rd Conference of German Historians: Talking about history

Opening hours / Beginning:

Mon:
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

4 October 2021

Who decides what counts as history – the academic historian or the journalist as historian? Who is more convincing? Whose point of view wins out? The rivalry between these protagonists is nothing new. Historians and journalists have always contended with one another over their respective interpretations of the past. But the advent of social media has altered the coordinates of public debate. In this discussion, historians and journalists will attempt to define the precise nature of this shift.

Participants:

  • Eva Schlotheuber (Düsseldorf)
  • Gustav Seibt (Berlin)
  • Patrick Bahners (Köln)
  • Gabriele Metzler (Berlin)

Moderators:

  • Georgios Chatzoudis (Düsseldorf)
  • Marko Demantowsky (Basel)
