Art at CAS: The Nature of Living Entities

Opening hours / Beginning:

28 October 2021 - 28 February 2022

Venue:

Center for Advanced Studies Seestraße 13 80802 München

This semester, two artists are exploring one shared theme – the nature of living entities – from two completely different angles. While Alexandra Hendrikoff’s biomorphic sculptures take a playful approach to nature, adapting the structures of living entities in mimetic form, Thomas Sebening creates abstractions of nature through a process of etching. Sebening transforms structures into landscapes, his almost material embodiments assuming a pure gestural quality in the space they occupy. The most attractive aspect of this dual exhibition stems from the fact that the two artists effectively work in opposite directions as they seek to fathom the essence of nature and the wonder of living entities.

  • Alexandra Hendrikoff studied sculpture at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, AdBK (Academy of Fine Arts) in Munich. Complementing her sculpting work, she presented the stand-out monograph Metamorphosis in 2014.
  • Thomas Sebening studied painting, graphic design and etching at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Alongside his activities as an artist, he has taught etching at the AdBK since 2001.

Art at the CAS presents works by Munich artists and is supported by UniGalerieLMU, an LMU-based forum for encounter and dialogue in the art space.
