Mourād Farag’s biography spans a century (from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century) that began with the dream of the emancipation and full integration of Egyptian Jews in the educated middle classes of the modern Arab world, but ended in the tragedy of their exodus and the decline of Arabic-speaking Judaism.
The lecture will be presented by Dr. Gregor Schwarb (LMU Munich) as part of the series Basics of Islam: Personalities organized by the Münchner Mittelost-Mittelmeer-Mittelasien-Zentrum (4MZ, Munich Middle East Mediterranean Central Asia Center).
