CAS: Sonic Bliss: Favourite Musical Moments in Theatre Performances

Opening hours / Beginning:

Wed:
6:15 pm

9 November 2022

Venue:

Center for Advanced Studies Seestraße 13 80802 München

Kick-off event of the CAS Research Group "The Sound of Theatre" under the direction of Prof. Dr. David Roesner with Prof. Adrian Curtin, Ph.D., Prof. Millie Taylor, Ph.D. and Dr. Pieter Verstraete.

In contrast to many other artifacts in the arts, ”sound“ and ”music“ in theatre productions remain particularly intangible, often even unheard impressions for scholars and general audiences alike. In this first public engagement, members of the research group will approach the theme by recalling ”favourite moments“ in their personal theatre biographies: they will share particularly significant, beautiful, surprising, or disturbing sonic events, whether they experienced them on stage or in the auditorium, seeking to draw conclusions from these musical imprints. What made them memorable? How do we experience sound and music in the theatre? How does it impact on the performance?

Adrian Curtin is Professor of Theater Studies at Exeter University. Millie Taylor is Professor of Musical Theater at the University of Amsterdam. Theater scholar Pieter Verstraete conducts research at the University of Groningen. All three are currently Fellows in the CAS Research Group.

To participate a registration via mail is required. For more information, please visit the CAS website.
