In her writings, author Asal Dardan analyzes society, sets out in search of a common language and asks how the never-ending antagonism between »us« and »the others« can be overcome.
This year marks the beginning of the Erika Mann Lectures at LMU Munich. Author Asal Dardan will get the series underway at 7 p.m. on 10 May 2023 in the University’s main building. In the course of the lecture series, authors will be invited whose works make an important contribution to societal issues and – like Erika Mann – inspire us with unerring perspicacity.
After the lecture, publisher and author Selma Wels will engage in discussion with Asal Dardan. Actress Wiebke Puls will read selected texts from Erika Mann’s extensive body of works.
The day of this Erika Mann Lecture – 10 May 2023 – is the 90th anniversary of the burning of books at Berlin’s Bebelplatz. In 1933, Jewish and other politically active writers were banned and saw their works publicly burned – among them works by Erika Mann. The lecture will both commemorate this event and admonish that it must never be repeated.
This event will be held in German. For more information and details of how to sign up, please visit the website for the Erika Mann Lecture Series.
