Children’s drawing: The seeker of possibilities
© Kinderrundschau, Beilage der Jüdischen Rundschau. 30.10.1936, S. 3
Children born around the turn of the 20th century grew up in an age of secularization. Many Jewish children, too, were far removed from their faith. As the cacophony of anti-Semitic voices grew louder, however, many of those who felt ostracized had no choice but to take a closer, more conscious look at their Jewish roots. A vibrant Jewish children’s culture was seen as a fun way to familiarize children with Jewish traditions, boost their self-confidence and highlight positive prospects for their future.
The exhibition addresses three key questions: Who was behind the development of these children’s media? What was their content, their message? And how were they perceived by Jewish children?
