Speaker: Prof. Andrew Hui, Ph.D.
Chair: Dr. Buket Altinoba (LMU)

Andrew Hui is a cultural historian and Professor of Humanities at the Yale-NUS College, Singapore. He is currently Visiting Fellow at CAS. In his recent book Andrew Hui tells the remarkable story of the Renaissance studiolo – a “little studio” – to reveal how these spaces dedicated to self-cultivation became both a remedy and a poison for the soul. He traces how humanists from Petrarch to Machiavelli to Montaigne created their own intimate studies. He looks at imaginary libraries and discusses how Renaissance painters depicted the Virgin Mary and St. Jerome as saintly bibliophiles.

The lecture is part of the CAS Research Focus “Scales”/”Maßstäbe”.

A registration is required. You can find more information on the CAS website.
