For 80 years, LMU’s main building has been located at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1. Like other streets and squares in Munich, the square was named after members of the White Rose. Naming streets and squares after victims of the Nazi regime and members of the resistance was intended to symbolize Munich’s political reorientation and its break with National Socialism.
The exhibition focuses on the political and societal debates that arose immediately after the end of the war concerning the legacy of National Socialism, tributes and the culture of remembrance. Curated by LMU students, it invites visitors to rediscover the city map as a reflection of historical debates and current struggles over interpretation.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the University Library, the Chair of Contemporary History, the White Rose Foundation and the Munich City Archives.
Guided tours will take place at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Further information is available on the University Library website.
