Venue:

Function room in the Philologicum Ludwigstr. 25 80539 München

To mark the anniversary of the first chair of modern German literature to be appointed in Munich – and indeed in Germany – Professor Ernst Osterkamp (HU Berlin) will deliver a keynote lecture.

In 1873, the University of Munich appointed Michael Bernays (1834-1897), a renowned philologist who set important trends in German studies and comparative literature research, initially as an associate professor and, from 1874, as a full professor. In the Bavarian capital, Bernays immersed himself in the study of 18th and 19th century German literature, but also in French and English literary history. Alongside Goethe, lectures on Shakespeare and Corneille were a regular feature of his curriculum.

Following the lecture, drinks will be served to bring the evening to a leisurely end.

Registration is required. For more information, please visit the Department of German Philology website.
