Opening hours / Beginning:

13 June 2022 - 15 June 2022

Venue:

ZEPP (LMU's Main Building, Room M 210) Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1

Meisterkurs with Prof. Jason Stanley, Ph.D.

This Meisterkurs is devoted to the forthcoming book “The Politics of Language: On Non-Ideal Theory of Meaning” by Jason Stanley (co-authored with David Beaver). Until recently the focus of Anglo-American meaning theory has been largely, and sometimes exclu- sively, on the use of language to convey information. In order to filter out non-informative uses of language, the evidence base of meaning theory has been narrowed by idealizations. Jason Stanley calls for abandoning these idealizations. He considers language uses that clearly serve more to form social groups than to exchange information.
