Triangulating Glacier Expertise: Interdisciplinary Exchange and Collaboration between the Himalayas and the Alps

Opening hours / Beginning:

8 September 2025 - 9 September 2025

Venue:

Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) Seestraße 13 80802 München

Workshop organized by Dr. Anna-Maria Walter (CAS Researcher in Residence/LMU).

The workshop explores collaborative approaches towards glaciers in the Karakorum-Himalayas and the Alps. What can we learn from triangulating data, methods, and theories as well as researchers’ positionality and disciplinary traditions? What kind of twists and turns does local knowledge take when it seeks to reach the international scientific community?

Participants include Suryanarayanan Balasubramanian (CAS Fellow/Acres of Ice), Zakir Hussain Zakir (CAS Fellow/University of Baltistan), Felix Keller (ETH Zürich).

Anna-Maria Walter is CAS Researcher in Residence during the summer semester 2025.

A registration is required. You can find more information and the complete conference program on the CAS website.
