Women in Data Science (WiDS) supports and empowers women in the field of data science through inspiration, education and community. It encompasses numerous initiatives worldwide – this year including a conference in Munich.
The WiDS Munich Conference will begin with a ‘speed dating’ session to let participants engage in networking and get to know each other, followed by lightning talks by data scientists representing academia and the business community. After a series of small-group discussions, the conference will end with an informal dialogue session over finger food.
The purpose of this event is to inspire and bring together active data scientists and people who are either interested in the discipline or themselves want to become data scientists. All genders are welcome to the conference, which seeks to inspire girls and women in particular by introducing them to successful women in data science.
"It's an event by women, but not just for women," says co-initiator Frauke Kreuter, professor of statistics and data science in the social sciences and humanities at LMU. "The event aims to highlight the presence of women in Data Science - and show young female academics the exciting problems in research and practice they can apply their skills to."
The WiDS Munich Conference 2023 is organized by BERD@NFDI, LMU, The Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI), SIXT SE, TUM and the TUM Think Tank.
