After three semesters of working, studying, teaching, and researching mainly online, I am very pleased that we are taking an important step back to regular university life with more events held in person this winter semester.

For the return to the classrooms and libraries, offices, laboratories and lecture halls, I wish all students, researchers, and administrative and technical staff a great start! I would like to extend a warm welcome not only to our first-year students, but also to those students who, due to the pandemic, have only experienced our university virtually up until now.

While gradually returning to regular university operations, we still have to adhere to the guidelines for infection control. Since the situation in the various disciplines and teaching formats at LMU is very diverse, it is up to the respective faculties and departments to decide on the specific format of classes and lectures.

Vaccinations continue to play a decisive role for our return to university. Please note that there will be another vaccination campaign for all members of LMU Munich: On 20 October 2021, the vaccination bus of the Bavarian Vaccination Center will be on site again at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz. More information can be found here .

I would like to sincerely thank you – also on behalf of the entire University Executive Board – for your flexibility, creativity, and perseverance over the past three semesters, and I wish us all a successful winter semester 2021/2022!

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Bernd Huber
President of LMU Munich
