For the fourth time in succession, LMU is among the five European universities chosen to host the Amgen Scholars Program. The Summer Schools funded by the Program give Bachelor’s students from all over Europe the opportunity to conduct original resear...

The first funding round for the Amgen Scholars Program began in 2009, and since then the Amgen Summer School at LMU has been organized by the various Faculties and Research Units represented in the Munich Center for Neurosciences (MCN) on LMU’s HighTechCampus in Martinsried. Every year, between July and September, the students selected for the Program work on research projects for a total of 10 weeks.

The students not only benefit from the research expertise of their supervisors, they also become part of a network that includes their peers at all the European institutions that host the program. In addition to LMU, this network comprises Cambridge University, the ETH in Zürich, the Institut Pasteur in Paris and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. At the end of the Program, all participants gather in Cambridge for a two-day symposium, at which the students present their results and engage in discussions.

Since the program was initiated in 2009, LMU has hosted 230 students at its Summer School. The total number of applications received over this period is around 20 times higher. To cover the costs of the School during the new funding period (2019-2022), LMU will receive some 580,000 euros from the Amgen Foundation.

Students studying for the Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Biochemistry, Structural, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, Neurobiology, Computational Neuroscience and Physiological Sciences at a European university are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a PhD program.

The closing date for receipt of applications is February 1, 2019. Further information on the qualifications required, as well as a link to the platform for applications, can be found at:
