LMU Neuroscientist named FENS-Kavli Fellow

Professor Anna Schroeder has been selected as a Fellow of the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) for the 2026 cohort. The network honors outstanding early-career researchers in neuroscience who have distinguished themselves through scientific excellence, originality, leadership, and dedication to advancing the field of neuroscience.

At LMU, Schroeder investigates how emotions, motivation, and physiological needs are represented in the brain and how they shape behavior. Her research combines fundamental studies of neural circuits with translational approaches aimed at improving our understanding and development of neuromodulatory therapies, including deep brain stimulation, which is used, for example, in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

In addition to establishing her research group, Schroeder is deeply committed to supporting early-career researchers, promoting public engagement with science, and contributing to initiatives that foster career development and equal opportunities in academia. As a member of the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence, she looks forward to exchanging ideas, building collaborations with leading young neuroscientists from across Europe, and helping shape initiatives that strengthen the neuroscience community.

The FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) is a pan-European network of exceptional early-career neuroscientists that fosters scientific excellence, international collaboration, and leadership. Its aim is to advance the neurosciences through scientific exchange, engagement in science policy, and outreach activities. Network members contribute to recommendations on research funding and policy, advocate for improved research environments, and support diversity, mentoring, and the career development of emerging neuroscientists throughout Europe.
