Open degree programs

Admissions and registration

There are no admission restrictions for the program you have selected. A place is available for all prospective students who have a university entrance qualification this means you do not have to apply for a place prior to registration. There is also no aptitude assessment, pre-registration or academic advising and orientation required.

Major and minor subjects

If your degree program consists of a combination of several subjects (e.g. major and minor subject; information on this can be found in the LMU Degree Program Finder), it is essential that you also visit the study page of the desired additional subject and click on "study place" there as well. Different subjects may have different entry requirements and procedures.

How to get a place at LMU

Please read the following explanations carefully. Select the category that applies to your status to get more information regarding next steps:

German citizens (even if they have dual citizenship!) should always choose the category "German and Bildungsinländer," even if they received their university entrance qualification abroad (also International Baccalaureate).

Foreign citizens please choose the category "Germans and Bildungsinländer" if you received your university entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad. The same applies if — after receiving a degree from a German university or university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters (bachelor's degree, state examination) — you would like to continue your studies in the same field at LMU (master's degree) or begin a new undergraduate program.

Please note: Foreign citizens who, after receiving their university entrance qualification abroad, successfully complete a degree program at a German university or university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters are also Bildungsinländer.

Citizens of EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czechia, Hungary, Cyprus) or the EEA member states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) please choose the category "EU/EEA citizens."

This also applies for candidates with dual citizenship with a non-EU/EEA member state who received their university entrance qualification abroad and received a degree from a German university or university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of less than 6 semesters and wish to begin a new undergraduate program (that does not build upon their existing third level qualifications) at LMU.

All other foreign citizens please select the category "non-EU citizens." This also applies for candidates who received their university entrance qualification abroad and received a degree from a German university or university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of less than 6 semesters and wish to begin a new undergraduate program (that does not build upon their existing third level qualifications) at LMU.
