Sustainability training

Sustainability is a key priority in LMU’s international activities. In this context, a new Sustainability Training will be launched for the first time in the summer semester 2026.The programme is designed for LMUs incoming and outgoing students.

About LMU's Sustainability Training

The training consists of two parts: a flexible, asynchronous online module that can be completed independently, and an interactive live session with a limited number of participants, offering space for discussion, reflection, and exchange. The course is held in English and brings together participants from different international exchange contexts at LMU.

The training addresses the environmental and climate impacts of international mobility. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own role and responsibility and are provided with practical ideas on how to make their experience more sustainable and meaningful. In this way, they are invited to take a part of LMU—and its commitment to sustainability—with them, whether on their study abroad experience or back to their home university.

The program was developed with the involvement of LMU’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Ralf Ludwig, and is part of an initiative funded through the LMU Nachhaltigkeitsfonds (Sustainability Fund). Find out more on the LMU Sustainability Fund webpage.

Students will receive information about the sustainability training via email from the LMU International Office.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate.

In addition, an in-person activity will be introduced in autumn: students will have the opportunity to plant trees in the LMU forest. This hands-on experience will provide further insight into climate action while also creating space for incoming and outgoing students to connect in person. Find out more on the LMU Forest webpage.
