Online Workshop
Whether it be social politics, pop culture or sex work; sports competitions, plastic surgery or television series: Queer Studies opens up new perspectives on our world by looking critically at norms and standardizations, researching their complex contexts. By deconstructing what is considered normal, natural or 'God-given'; that is, perceived as unchangeable and absolute, we can better understand the structures and workings of our society and recognize and analyse its implicit mechanisms of domination and power.
This workshop is eligible for the Gender Certificate.
Seminar content
In the first part, the seminar deals with the precursors of Queer Studies and its roots in the emancipation movements of the 20th century. In the second part, basic theories as well as important terms and concepts of deconstructing heteronormativity and gender binary are dealt with. Finally, the third part draws attention to the developments that queer theoretical approaches, beyond gender and sexuality, have taken until today.
